Would you buy a grass phone?

It is no secret that most people are living a “greener” lifestyle and making choices geared towards environmental friendliness. We have even seen this movement in the digital and mobile market with a collaboration between O2 Recycle and designer Sean Miles, wowing the world with an eco-friendly mobile phone design.

This new design goes above and beyond bringing a trendy new look to those who want to keep up with the times. Made entirely from recycled and natural product the eco-phone takes mobile design to the next level.  What does this mean? In short, the mobile phone casing is actually made from specially treated grass clippings, from Twickenham Stadium of all places, and recycled resin!

While it’s a nice thought to think that cell phone users actually upcycle their unused handsets, this is not actually the case. Statistics on recycling in the UK show that as little as 25% of unused mobile phones are recycled. This is a shocking statistic – with landfill sites filling up and general pollution on the rise – perhaps a recycled and more eco-friendly mobile phone is the answer.

Is the future of mobile phones eco-friendly?

The grass mobile phone concept and product came about when a mobile phone giant commissioned Miles to create a mobile phone to celebrate the launch of their “Recycle for Rugby programme” to emphasise the importance of recycling. And we guess it worked! Sean Miles and the Design Works team have been so impressed with the first mock up of the mobile phone that investigations are ongoing to see if it is viable to produce this phone on a mass scale. The only question still unanswered is, what does the target market have to say? Would you buy a mobile phone made of grass? Is this the phone for you? Would you feel that you are doing your bit for the environment by switching out your current plastic or aluminium phone for a grass one?

We would simply love to hear what you think and feel about this particular design and creation! Let us know!
