68 million people weren’t very impressed with Dropbox after the last data breach and we can understand why. Their private data, passwords and personal details were leaked and that meant that sensitive data stored on Dropbox was put at risk. The risk for a business in this type of situation is huge! Even more so, when they only find out about the breach years after the fact. That should be enough to make the 500 million current users on Dropbox think twice, yet they don’t seem to be!
It would appear that Dropbox has been quite good at concealing the fact that they were hacked. If you haven’t done so yet and you do use Dropbox, then now is a good time to change your password, or better yet, move your data to a more secure service provider who offers data encryption.
The last data breach made the details of millions of users free and available online to download.
Dropbox has nothing of value to offer businesses anymore – there, we said it!
In 2007, Dropbox was ‘the next big thing’ for businesses needing online backup services for free. With an integrated Dropbox setup, company data was able to be shared across multiple devices, eliminating the need for mailing documents back and forth or exchanging flash drives. Everything seemed to be just peachy for the business owner looking to cut back on operating costs, but then… enter the hacker! Hackers all but turned Dropbox on its head with breaches, attacks and so forth.
If you are of the mind-set that such trauma and tragedy will never befall you and your business, we have news for you! It’s of no doubt whatsoever that at some point it will, and if you are using the likes of Dropbox as your online backup and storage provider, you’re inviting the risk.
Of course, you can keep changing your password and be careful not to store sensitive data on Dropbox (not even for a few minutes), but we have a better recommendation: change to a new and secure online backup service provider! If you’re looking for backup made easy, value for money and security for your offsite data protection, consider our business backup plans. You won’t be disappointed.
